About Us

"If someone would've told this country boy that I would be starting a cab company in the future, I would have never believed it, but this world is funny and it just kind of happened." - Rhett Havener

Charity Cab was founded in May of 2013, by Rhett Havener. Rhett grew up in the small farm town of Patterson CA. Rhett has always wanted to take control of his dreams and wanted to be in a position to share what he had worked hard for to fulfill a greater cause- helping others. Something that he learned from his family at a young age that was very important and rewarding.

Growing up a kid in the country riding dirt bikes and farming, he never could have guessed this would be in his future. But this world guided him in mysterious ways and it just so happened that this idea was presented. When Rhett came up with the idea to start a cab company, it was the summer of 2011, Rhett was out of work and nursing a painful motocross injury. The injuries slightly derailed his previous plans and trying to figure out what he was going to do and the next steps in his life. Rhett had a few years of business experience with other successful companies, so he decided to start a cab company.

Next, came the planning and preparation of starting this great business, Rhett decided he wanted to get some traveling out of his system, before he dedicated his whole life to starting this business. With the Charity Cab idea on the back burner, he went to Central America for a few months to see a different part of the world, and do some surfing.
Rhett began his bigger plans to travel, including a trip to Europe and Asia and saw so much more of what is out there. Experiencing cultural differences and getting a taste of other countries beauty opened his eyes and gave him a new motivation in life. This gave him something more to work towards as he wanted to spend a large portion of his future discovering what other amazing things the world has to offer. This inspired him to work hard and make this a possibility later in life.

Needless to say during this time the Charity Cab idea was just that, an idea. Fast forward to the beginning of 2013. Rhett was at a point in his life where he wanted to take the next step towards the ideas and dreams he held onto, with the new found inspiration and confidence. The idea of starting a cab company resurfaced and was again a possibility. With a few months of planning and preparation, he aimed to open business in May 2013. After putting literally everything he had towards starting this business, Rhett was forced to live in the taxis for the first few months of opening. It was a rough few months as expected, but the vision of having future success and fulfilling dreams made the sacrifice much easier to bear. Things seem to be running smoothly and the community's response was great. People were very eager to spread the word and Charity Cab's support from people in the area was overwhelming.

"Our loyal customers may never know just how much it meant, and how much it continues to mean to me." - Rhett

Deciding to donate a portion of the fares to charity came up and that is how the name "Charity Cab" came about. After researching many different charities, Rhett came up with a list of 10 charities to donate to. Donating $1 of every fare was a great way for Rhett to give back and get the community involved in giving back as well. You can find the list of charities on the charity tab of the site.
